Dead plumber’s eyes donated

Ahmedabad: A plumber, Ishwar Makwana, 30, died after loosing consciousness while working at an apartment in Satellite. He apparently died while being taken to the hospital. His family members who rushed to the hospital requested that his eyes be donated.

Police officials who were waiting for the post mortem to be carried out sanctioned this noble gesture and ensured that the victim’s eyes were donated before the medical examination.

Ishwar who used to stay in Vasukinagar in Naranpura used to work as a plumber since the last six years. “On Wednesday at 11.30 am he was at Nandan apartment in Satellite where he was attending to some work. While working, he suddenly fell unconscious. The apartment’s residents and their neighbours tried to revive Ishwar by sprinkling water but when there was no response, they called an ambulance. They also intimated his family members that Ishwar was being taken to Sola civil hospital,” said Satellite police officials probing this case.

When the ambulance reached the hospital, medicos there declared him “brought dead”. By this time his family members had reached. Among the grieving family members, Ishwar’s elder brother Jitendra Makwana spoke to the police officials and stated his request for eye donation. Cops intimated the hospital doctors who respected the wish of the victim’s kin and then the post mortem was carried out.
